Yesterday we were angered to hear that there had been another death in the UK detention estate, making it the second death in detention in September. One was already too many.
This time the death took place closer to home in Dungavel IRC. A Detention Centre which the Home Office had backtracked on its decision to close last year.
Our thoughts are with the friends, family and fellow detainees in Dungavel, in what must be an incredible difficult time.
The Unity Centre are once again calling people to gather at the Home Office building on Brand Street at 4.30pm on Thursday 21st September. We choose this time because we are there to show the workers the consequences of their actions. Detention kills.
“All deaths in immigration detention are avoidable because immigration detention is optional” (Medical Justice spokesperson)
