*UPDATE: Hashim didn’t fly yesterday
His friends released a statement about it:
“It is with great joy that I can announce Hashim was not deported this morning. Every action like this is a blow to Fortress Europe and its twisted logic. A huge thanks to all who showed support by sharing his story, contacting the airline, offered advice, and in countless other ways. While Hashim’s fight is not over, today was a victory”
STOP THE FORCED REMOVAL OF HASHIM ABUBAKER MOHAMED TO ROME, ITALY ON FRIDAY 29/04/16
Urgent action is needed to stop the forced removal of our friend, Hashim Abubaker Mohamed. Please read below and take action:
Hashim is a young asylum seeker from Sudan, who has been a member of our community for over 1 ½ years. He is seeking safety in Belfast after fleeing from terrible persecution in his native country. After many years of instability he thought he was safe.
But now the Home Office is trying to deport him. Hashim originally fled to Italy 9 years ago, but did not receive adequate accommodation and support. Italy’s extremely poor reception and support conditions for asylum seekers and migrants is well documented. Hashim was destitute and had no option but to flee to the UK. In addition to this, he is vulnerable young person with issues like PTSD and should not be removed on these grounds. His solicitor is trying to get an independent assessment but needs more time.
Moreover, Hashim is a member of our community and has a human right to remain here.
His flight is set for this Friday – 29/4/16 at 0725hrs on Alitalia airline. Please call, tweet, and email tell Alitalia airline that Hashim does not want to fly and they are doing so against his will, and to somewhere where he will not be safe.
