Team UNITY FC doesn’t lose a game
Despite having never played together before Team Unity FC didn’t lose a match last Saturday and came third out of the six teams playing at the anti-racist football tournament at Glenconner Park in Springburn.
Impressive play by Tito, Iain, Eddie, Dennis, John K, Paul and Issa meant Unity only missed being in the tournament final on goal difference. Brilliantly, Unity managed to play tournament champions to a 3-all draw, the only team of the tournament not to get beaten by them.
Brothers Dennis and Eddie played a blinder of a game during the six 30 minute long matches especially as Dennis had already played a full length 90 minute 11-a-side game that morning whilst Eddie had many near misses until finally getting his mark to score twice in the last match we played. Goalie (and team coach) Tito made sure the pressure was kept up on the other teams with a constant stream of shouted advice whilst making some amazing saves on the line.
Despite not having proper boots, Iain managed to keep his feet on the sodden pitch and played a solid defence backed up by fellow Scot Paul who had only joined the team that morning.
Finally mention must be made of the fantastic play by team captain John K. and Issa whose energy and stamina didn’t seem to fade throughout the tournament.
Despite not losing a game against any of the five other teams playing in the tournament Unity did not make it to the tournament final as 2 other teams had managed to score more goals in their games. Despite this disappointment however, Team Unity, led by coach Tito, managed to beat all the other teams in the number of burgers eaten at the barbecue!
A great day and well done all of you! More photos of the match below.

Many thanks to Terry and everyone else in the G. B. who arranged the tournament (we’ll win it next year)
After the success of Saturday we hope to keep Team Unity FC going and plan to have regular training and with the help of other teams from Sighthill to set up an ‘international’ league in Glasgow. If you are interested in playing we want to hear from you!
(Plus we’re busy looking for an organisation or local business who would be willing to sponsor the team to pay for our team kit and sorting out boots for some of the players. If you are interested or know of any likely businesses who may want to support our team in this way, please get in touch.)
