DO YOU HAVE AN OLD BIKE THAT COULD BE DONATED TO AN ASYLUM SEEKER?

Please help us give little six year old Almado a bike….

Over the last week for one reason and another we have had a couple of bikes in the Unity Centre waiting to be fixed. As a result quite a lot of people coming into the centre have asked us if we had any bikes that they could have.

Today a little boy from South Africa who with his mum we’d helped get out of detention earlier in the year, became very excited and told us he really wanted a bike and we promised that we would put out a message asking if anyone had a bike they could give him.

As a result we have decided to send out an appeal asking for donations of cycles and not just for children of asylum seekers but for adults as well.

Asylum seekers are forbidden from working and only receive 70 per cent of usual welfare benefits. They only receive travel expenses if they are lucky or if their college pays them. Or if they live more than three miles from the reporting centre. So having a bike would be a really good way for them to get around the city.

If you can help please get in touch….
